Last time we updated was Friday night.... Hannah arrived safely on Saturday afternoon. We got introduced & headed down town for the evening. We took the students for the their first Ice cap at Timmy's, which they loved. Then walked around downtown & enjoyed the nice weather & beautiful sunset!!
Sunday we decided to go to Bethel Baptist after being invited by Neil, who is a chaplain for all the fishing boats in town & the Gideons. We had to leave a bit early for the trek across town. We walked about 4 miles & then were greeted by the nicest group of people. It was a great time! There was a potluck after church & we stayed and met some of the locals. The pastor is from South Africa & the only place he has been in Canada is Rupert. He was planning on retiring in South Africa, but God called him here about 2 years ago. He loves the place & the people!
After church we started home & took a detour through the most beautiful walking trails! As we were exiting the trail we were greeted with music & an aroma of pot. We decided to check out the event that was going on & it ended up being a skate board competition for the local youth. They had about 100+ people there. It was a great event! I sat by a lady named Lori, who was born and raised in Rupert; along with her husband. They were so friendly & talkative. It was great to connect with some locals. After the skate event we headed home & settled in for the night.
Monday was a very full day because of Orientation. This was great day, as we shared our vision with the students, watched Dwight Huffman's "Exploration" video, and then sent them out to "scout" the community. Josh & I decided that it would be best to have the students randomly pick a number from a bowl & then that was the team they were on. We then had all the teams go downtown to find Joy at Special Events, their designated place to find out some information about the community & then they had to eat lunch downtown & find something out about their waitress or waiter. When we all met back we were so excited to hear everyones story!
As we listened to the stories; it was overwhelming to see that we had met about 20 people in that activity alone. One team said they had run into someone who had heard we were in town to help volunteer. So the news of us being in town is traveling around quickly. Small towns are good for that! One nickname for Prince Rupert is "Prince Rumor". Hopefully we can spread a good truth around this community!
Either way we are excited to know a bit more about the community & be here for 8 weeks to share the love of the Lord with so many!!
These next two weeks we will be helping to prepare for Seafest. This is the biggest event we will be a part of. This week we will be making a float, building & painting barricades, & helping with other random things. Gordon is who we are helping right now & he is so thankful for the help! He is a retired man who lives on Dodge Cove. He has invited us over one Saturday for salmon sandwiches & then a day of hiking on the island. He wants to take us out on his boat one day too. It is going to be too fun!
Thank you for praying for us! Please continue to do so... we have probably met over 100 people here who know why we are here... May the Lord draw some of these to Himself!!!

Hi Khara & Josh & the rest of God's gang!!!
Yay, so happy all is coming together as God has planned and as we have prayed. This is all so exciting! Just awesome! The trail in the forest looks so enchanting! The trees look so tall and there's a beautiful yet eerie smoke about the forest floor. I can almost see the little elves under the leaves sipping their tea and guarding their gold! Thanks for the updates and contineu as much as you can with them and pictures! Yes, love the pics! Praying for you all daily - for God's will and His leading you right into it, your health, your encounters, for peace and a cooperative spirit among the group and for a great sensitivity to the prompting of the Holy Spirit! Please clue us in to any special needs, thoughts and requests. Can't wait to hear about the Seafest!
Khara and Josh...I am ALWAYS just blown away by how God orchestrates the details of our lives to be just where HE needs us to be. How awesome that HE has brought the 8 of you together to plant seeds of HIS amazing love and build relationships with the people of Prince Rupert. What a blessing to read your journal entries and just feel God's presence in your written words! I also love seeing the pictures...I believe I recognize that cute "southern girl" Anna:) I have talked with her online and she told me that this is "EXACTLY what she wanted to do with her summer!!" Thank you for investing in her life and the lives of these other college students...Thank you(and Josh) for hearing and answering God's call on your lives!!Thank you for embracing this team that God handpicked for you! Thank you for feeding them, for discipling them and most of all for just loving on them!!! I believe that your "Prince Rupert Family" will be forever bonded together long after your time at Rupert is over! Blessings (K.Dobbs)
I finally found your blog! I look forward to reading your adventures and have decided to pray for you this summer as well.
